First Baptist Church of Waverly, NY
Making Christ Known in the Twin Tiers and the World

Missions Page

The First Baptist Church has a heart for missions. As a church we have been involved through our missions giving as well as several "hands on" mission opportunities. Our desire as a church is to "make Christ known in the Twin Tiers and the World"

Foreign Missions:

The First Baptist Church is involved in the speading of the Gospel in far away places. Some of the ways we have been involved has been through:
  • Hosting missionary speakers from overseas including Lebanon, Mexico & Thailand.
  • Helping in world relief projects through the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering. Within the past year we have been involved with the Tsunami efforts in Asia, the Sudan and a number of major hurricane relief efforts.
  • Operation Christmas Child/Shoebox ministry project. Done through the ministry of Samaritans Purse, this program reaches out to needy children during the Christmas season with the love of Jesus Christ.
  • Sponsoring "hands-on" missions projects overseas. Our church was involved in sponsoring some of our members to go on a missions trip to help build a high school in the Dominican Republic

The high school project in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic was a project that our church sponsored.

Local/United States Missions

The First Baptist Church is involved in a number of ways in mission work locally, in New York State and throughout the U.S. Mission experts say the America is the third largest mission field in the world. Some of the ways we have been involved in our own community/nation include:

  • Giving to the America for Christ Offering through the American Baptist Churches, USA
  • Being involved with the BRIDGE ministry. This is a local outreach to the needy of our community as in involved in several projects including: a clothes closet, fuel assistance, rental help, furniture, etc.
  • Contributing to the local food pantry through a number of extensive food drives during the year
  • Being involved in a number of evangelistic outreach programs including Vacation Bible School, visitation, water bottle ministry in which water bottles are given to visitors and the unchurched.
  • Being involved financially through Habitat for Humanity and the Chow for Children program-a way of feeding needy children
  • Sponsoring and participating in a short term missions trip to Mississippi for Hurricane Katrina relief.
  • Being involved in the Franklin Graham festival in Binghamton, NY.
