Making Christ Known in the Twin Tiers and the World
The First Baptist Church of
Waverly, NY
Worship Ministry:
Give thanks to the Lord for He is Good?-Psalm 136:1
Giving God all of our praise and adoration is a big part of who we are as the First Baptist Church of Waverly. As a congregation our vision for worship is to bring spiritual reality into the life of each person as they participate in corporate worship. We desire that every person, both believer and seeker have a living encounter with Jesus Christ as they worship. Therefore, our goal for worship is that it will:
Seek to please God first
Be committed to excellence in all we do.
Be Great Commission driven..Creating a worship atmosphere to which we will want to bring unchurched friends, and to which they will want to return.
Be Thoroughly Biblical in all we do.
Be practical in order to help people in their daily lives
Integrate worship forms with a strong emphasis on praise. Praise songs during gatherings help break down barriers and focus attention on God.
Allow the entire congregation to participate
Be bold, innovative, sensitive, reverent, relaxed and joyful..open to creative ideas..flexible and patient.
Equip people for spiritual warfare
Allow people to be free and confident as they meet with God, without fear of being judged by others.
Build up the Body of Christ, surrounded by prayer as the Holy Spirit meets with us.
Our desire is that all our worship, both corporate and individual, give "blessing and honor and glory and power to Him who sits upon the throne forever and ever."

The First Baptist Church defines itself as a "Community of Believers in Jesus Christ." The Bible speaks about the importance of community as well as being the family of God. Like most families, we have our personality quirks and differences from time to time, but we are united by the fact that we share a personal relationship with the same heavenly
Father who has revealed Himself through Jesus Christ. On a regular basis, we come together as family-sometimes to worship, sometimes to eat together, sometimes to express our various perspectives of our faith in Christ and sometimes to invite guests to God's House. Whatever we gather for and no matter what the circumstances are, because of Christ, we are family!

Spiritual Growth Focus: "I am the vine, you are the branches" -John 15:5
Spiritual growth is an important part of who we are at First Baptist. Our desire is to grow closer to the Lord through prayer, Bible Study, worship and fellowship. At the heart of our Christian faith is the fact that Christianity is not primarily a religion but a relationship with the risen Jesus Christ. Within our congregation and throughout the Twin Tiers, there is a strong movement of prayer and spiritual revival. We are committed to grow closer to our Lord by a daily pilgrimage with Him.
Spiritual Growth Focus Ministries
Weekly prayer and Bible Study Thursdays at 10:00 a.m.
Sunday morning time of prayer at 9 a.m.
Special prayer events such as "National Day of Prayer"
"Therefore go and make disciples of all the nations" -Matthew 28:19
The Lord Jesus Christ earnestly desires that people have a relationship with Him. He came in order to reconcile people to Himself through His sacrifice on the cross. Furthermore, He has called us as a church to "make Christ known in the Twin Tiers and the world" as we try to live out our faith both in word and deed. We have experienced what it means to be reconciled to God and what it means to be loved by the Lord. In response to this, it is our congregation's desire to share the love to the ends of the earth.
